The new 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is Toyota’s eighth hybrid car. Using the same essential powertrain found in the Lexus NX 300h crossover, this vehicle is targeted toward active younger couples. It features an intelligent All-Wheel Drive, and the rear wheels are powered by an independent electric motor while the front wheels are powered by both an electric motor and a four cylinder engine.
The new hybrid look features an updated rocker panel design, rear bumpers with improved tailgate, front and rear silver skid plate trim on most models, a shark fin antenna, and the option to add LED taillights. The new style of the hybrid features a lower rocker panel that extends to the rear bumper, giving it a uniquely sleek style.
Although the power and MPG numbers have not yet been released, Fay has promised that this Hybrid would lead the industry in fuel economy while delivering more power than the average hybrid. This is certainly a vehicle to keep on your radar.
In response to consumer feedback, Toyota added many useful features on the 2016 Hybrid. These include a leather steering wheel, extra USB ports, an additional 12V power outlet, new interior color choices, an available 4.2 inch TFT multi-information display in revised gauge cluster, an available seven inch display audio touch screen and much more. Still more updates to the new Hybrid include luxurious, high-quality materials in the floors, doors, dash and walls.
The new Hybrid will be offered in two premium grades: the XLE and the Limited. Both grades will feature an Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive System with intelligence (AWD-i). 17-inch alloy wheels are available, along with six different exterior color choices. Front and rear parking sonar, optional Smart Key and a Homelink garage door opener are standard on the Limited grade. The SiriusXM All-Access Radio, with a complimentary three-month subscription, is included in both models.
Also featured in this Hybrid, new for Toyota, is a “Bird’s Eye View Monitor” which employs four cameras located on the front, side mirrors, and rear of the car, creating a 360-degree view. These cameras assist the driver when pulling in and out of parking spaces and when parallel parking. This system also includes an industry-first feature called Perimeter Scan, which provides a rotating 360 degree view of the area around the car.
William Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division at Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., emphasized the affordability of the Toyota Safety Sense, or TSS, that is included in all Limited grade RAV4s. The TSS includes a Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beans, Pedestrian Pre-Collision System, Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning.
